Ashbury Heights
Приєднався 26 чер 2016
Ashbury Heights is Anders Hagström and Tea F. Thimé.
Anders is a musician turned Game Designer and aspiring scholar. Tea is a social science major dual wielding degrees in criminology and literature who enjoys writing lyrics. Together they're a particularly high brow duo that writes songs and puts them up on the youtubes. They also talk about lyrics in songs and make the occasional joke.
The Skeleton Tree is Ashbury Heights' first youtube endeavour, it's a show where they interpret various musical genres in their own inimitable way. 'How would you do a waltz'? someone asks and then the dynamic duo is off to procrastination station to get on a train to Waltzville.
Ashbury Heights also release records on the german indie label Out of Line and enjoy critical if not commercial success. If you liked their performances here you can check out their other work on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, or even one of those old timey CD's.

Halloween Cover #2: Every Day is Halloween
Happy Halloween everybody!
Oh man, where to start? We've promised to do something special for Halloween for three years and these covers were actually started last year. Scheduling problems and the constant workload has made it impossible to finish. But this year we said enough is enough and tore through the production in 2 weeks. That's why Anders is sporting a cell-phone and a tome in these things, he didn't have time to actually learn the lyrics :P
These are the first 2 covers Ashbury Heights has ever done and it's actually the first covers any of us has released period. We listened through a lot of "top ten Halloween songs"-lists to choose the tracks to cover and boy is there a lack of good Halloween music. In the end we came up with four alternatives that we felt had something we liked and here we are.
Track #1 'Don't Fear the Reaper' by Blue Oyster Cult is a beautiful song with some pretty puerile lyrics. But we feel it's naive rather than stupid and as a Halloween track it is probably THE classic (together with Monster Mash which we also considered). Our version is an attempt to make it danceable and fun in a modern sense, while keeping the songs haunting and atmospheric qualities intact. We think it turned out pretty nicely in that regard :)
Track #2 'Everyday is Halloween' by Ministry felt like the most natural track to do a cover of. It's electronic, it's by a band Anders has been listening to ever since 8th grade and it was really fun doing something so shamelessly retro with the production. Modernizing this song felt like robbing it of its soul so we stuck with an arrangement very close to the original.
Hope you enjoy these forays into covering other people's music as much as we did.

Ashbury Heights: The Skeleton Tree -Track 03: Halcyon.

Sorry for keeping y'all waiting, rehearsals for a gig took up all of our time for the past four weeks. Here's the very third episode of the Skeleton Tree, 'Halcyon'. This experiment comes with a shoutout to youtube user MechnoSferatu who was the one that asked us to do a waltz way back before episode one :) This is obviously not our usual forte and it was a real challenge to write, but we are i...
Ashbury Heights: The Skeleton Tree - Track 02: A Hard Week

Our second experiment takes the form of a duet in the vein of old 70's and 80's ballads featuring male and female vocals. We listened to a lot of really saccharine stuff while making this track including some Kenny Rogers *shivers*. Listening through the most successful duets of all time we realized we didn't like most of them. Trying to work with concepts that didn't really appeal to us and ma...

Ashbury Heights: The Skeleton Tree Season 1 - Track 01 Body of Assumptions
Переглядів 44 тис.8 років тому
The first experiment of the first season of The Skeleton Tree. For this track Anders wanted to do a track that echoed some of his favourite old EBM tracks. One week was spent listening to inspirational music, writing the music & lyrics and producing a rough mix of the track. We are very happy about how it turned out, hope you all can enjoy it for what it is, some good old school danceable fun. ...

Our second VLOG takes the shape of a bit of a Q&A session, we get an intro sequence for the show and are also learning to edit our ramblings for greater cohesiveness.
Ashbury Heights: The Skeleton Tree S1 - VLOG 01

Our first (incredibly awkward) VLOG kicking off our new side project "The Skeleton Tree". The Skeleton Tree is a project where we try and take our music to UA-cam and let the fans decide what we do and how we do it. We're still making albums as usual, but we felt that it could be fun to do some stuff on the side that's more earnest and less weighed down by our excessive attention to detail. The...
Is this Kari or Tea singing?
This is an awesome choice for a cover, as it is one of my favorite BÖC tunes!
Sounds Great In A Live Session 😸
Man literally EVERYONE has to do this song with cowbell for forever now.
i love the play on love and circus music. Very relatable! heheh LOVE it!!!
<3
Hahahaha. Actually loved this 👏🏼
How does one get to this level of silliness?
I'm feeling this
i hope u add this to one of your albums. I love this version.
Just coming back here to say if you ever want to revisit/rerecord/polish this track, I think it’d be awesome. The bassline is so good.
no no no. this is not right. dancehall europop cover of this classic song? it's bland.
cool cover and I think ministry was much better when they did synth pop
the girl is beautiful, and the voice...
I gotta have more cowbell!!🤪
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️✨
Is that blue prop in the background Brooke from One Piece?
I love how into the beat Anders is.
She's a real doll, i love her (and missed her)
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard.
Боже, какие вы классные! Обожаю вашу музыку голоса!😘

They actually have released it! Just a day ago, in their new album. A pleasant surprise.
I got a fever; and the only cure, is more electric cowbell.
I have watched this at least ten times. I can't stop watching it.
nice.
I wish there was lyrics to this 😭
Everytime it's so cool. And Tea..... i miss your voice, your coolness and your marvellous 💜

You are so funny :D
Bravo my Dear Ashbury Heights!
Wish i could get this on Spotify
I’ve lost track of how many times I have returned. For all the times that I played this in 2020, please accept my heartfelt thanks.
Please do a covers album and pop it on Spotify...this is awesome!
Great song!
This is by far the best cover i've seen of this song. Something about that background arpeggio with the pulsing beat just does this song so much justice. amazing job!

All the halloween inspired covers on one vinyl... TAKE MY MONEY!
This is really fucking good. Can't believe it took me four years to come across it.
I am working on my annual Halloween Mix- through this process I just discovered you- and I am damn glad I did- uber groovy cover. Thanks. Luv. 93.
This evokes what was so wonderful about the original while being its own thing.
Great cover!
Good God is she hot!
The Deuce likes this, the Reaper is packing himself!
